RESOLUTION NO. 10-2001

 

INTENT TO RENAME THOMAS A. DEVILBISS HIGH SCHOOL AS THE “THOMAS A. DEVILBISS ACADEMIC AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER”

 

WHEREAS, Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School was built in 1931 and graduated its first class in 1933; and

WHEREAS, for over half of century this high school produced outstanding graduates who have made many contributions to the quality of life in the City of Toledo and surrounding area; and

 WHEREAS, Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School was closed in 1991; and

WHEREAS, the DeVilbiss building has since been renovated and refurbished, and is now homw to such academic programs as the District’s International Studies Center and the Gifted and Talented Program; and

WHEREAS, it is also the home of the Toledo Technology Academy – a special school that prepares students for careers in the manufacturing engineering field; and

WHEREAS, the Golden Reunion Committee of Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School, which is made up of graduates of classes that have celebrated their 50th year since graduation, wishes to perpetuate the name of the high school which they graduated; and

WHEREAS,  the Committee also wishes to continue recognition of the name of Thomas A. DeVilbiss, a noted industrialist and philanthropist who, along with other members of the DeVilbiss family, have made many significant and important contributions to the civic life of the Toledo community; and

WHEREAS, the Toledo Board of Education supports this Committee in its initative to rename this Toledo landmark; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Education of the Toledo City School District, Lucas County, Ohio, that this School District intends to take the appropriate steps to rename Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School as “The Thomas A. DeVilbiss Academic and Technology Center”; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution shall be recorded in the minutes of this meeting and a copy presented with gratitude to a representative of the Golden Reunion Committee of Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School
