An inspirational note from Beverly (Reed) Valencic
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I sincerely hope this new millennium brings all of us remaining graduates the best of health. I had three years of real health problems and I am quite fortunate that I am still alive.
I was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease and went through six months of chemotherapy. But then four months later, I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
I was sent to Omaha, Nebraska where they specialize in this particular cancer and had a stem cell transplant. Sixteen months later I had a reoccurring problem so this time I was sent to Houston, Texas to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center where I underwent surgery along the spine where these cancer had been.
I am telling you, it was a tough few years but I think that I am a better person because of it.
Now I feel terrific in more ways than one. If you would like to put something on "our" website about my situation, please feel free to do that.
I am most eager to talk to anyone that is battling cancer. I have been spending my time working at the hospital in Athens with cancer patients and our cancer care center.
