Pass

Pass Is an Invitation. Pass is allowed, of course, when there's no fit or no weak bid, but is a virtual invitation to the other side to enter the bidding.

Once passed, we come in freely to balance or push the opponents, but our partner doesn't forget we passed originally, and so doesn't punish us for competing.
