Tournament Life

Facilities. Big tournaments always try to offer inexpensive accommodations and air flights to get there, and the local clubs and ACBL Units offer great entertainment and other ways to make visitors feel welcome. Tournament bridge has a big extended family of good players - - what more could a real bridge player want ?

Fun After Bridge. Big regional and national tournaments have fun entertainment, too. Often there are shows, dances, restaurant busses, spousal trips, etc. Local clubs go all out to make visitors welcome and local merchants offer incentives to spend some money with them. You can help put on a big tournament by becoming active in your unit and local duplicate club.

(We now play in the biggest and highest level tournaments we can get to - - the big Regionals and Nationals - - several times a year. We plan our vacations around these trips, as they are a fun activity we enjoy together. When we retire, we intend to make tournament bridge a major part of our lives, traveling around the country to meet good bridge players all across North America and maybe in the Far East, Europe and Australia.)
