Times of Sessions

Sessions start at many different times, depending on the type of session. Generally the times are:

First Session. Afternoon sessions usually start at 12:30 or 1:00 and last until about 4:00 or 4:15.

Second Session. Evening sessions start at 7:30 and go until 11:00 or 11:15.

Early Bird Sessions. Morning sessions start at 9:00 and finish in time to play in an afternoon session.

Midnight Sessions. Midnight Swiss events start at 11:30 or 12:00 midnight and end by 2:00 A.M. or so.

Senior Sessions. At some Senior events, sessions may start at 10:30 A.M. and 4:30 P.M., thus finishing by 8 P.M. or so. This is especially nice for those who don't like to be out late at night.

Team Play Sessions.  Sessions for team events, such as Swiss Team or Knockouts, may start at 9:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM for a four session knockout event, for example.

On Sundays or the last day of tournaments, sessions usually start earlier - - at 12:00 or 11:00 or even 10:00 - - in order to finish earlier in the evening for those who work.

Sometimes, Sunday or last day events will be played as 'play-through', meaning all sessions are played continuously with only a 45 minute or 1 hour break for dinner. Sometimes the tournament sponsors will include a box lunch with the card fees for play-through events. This is to get done early on the final day so players can get a good night's rest before work the next day.

(We've played in as many as four sessions of bridge in one day!)
