Novice Tournament Events

Great for Beginners. Novice events are generally those for players holding up to 199 master points, and with as few as none.

(Remember that everyone started with 'none'. Don't be scared. After you read this series, you'll beat them your first time out).

There are terrific programs for Novice players at large tournaments. They have free guest lecturers, trophies, guaranteed partners and lots of other fun things to encourage new duplicate players.

A Non-Threatening Learning Experience. In novice games, players learn to follow the rules of procedure and protocol in a non-threatening environment.  Gone are the days where new players have to compete with gruff, unfriendly hard-core players.

Get Your Sea Legs First. You should play in novice events until you have 100 points or so and are comfortable and confident about your game and the rules. However, you should also play in some higher level games occasionally, too.  That will definitely keep you humble about how good you really are.
