Knockout Events

You Lose, You're Out. Other team events are Knockouts -- your team plays a 28 board match with another team, one a day, for several sessions or all week long, until your team loses. Thus, losers are 'knocked out'. It's like a tennis tournament.

Scheduling. Usually, Knockouts are scheduled at 9:00 in the morning, so you can still play in a two session Pairs event that day if you lose - or even if you win. Recently, they are scheduling knockouts in the afternoons and evenings, so there may be several of them in a week-long tournament.

Payoff. Knockouts pay lots of master points and they're the best way to get your Gold points, necessary to become a Life Master.

Other Extended Team Events. Several other forms of extended team play are used to determine high level National and International events, but they aren't described in this series.
