The Swiss Team Consolation Bracket

For The Not-So-Good-Guys. Usually, a consolation bracket is set up for those who don't do too well in the first session. If your team record is below some minimum score, usually about 1 3/4 or 2, you will be placed in the consolation bracket for the second session.

Those teams will start a new Swiss Team event, with only the four evening matches, while the other teams continue on the regular event.

There's no visible difference to the players in the consolation round; it's just that the teams are placed into separate categories for the remainder of the day. So your team can do badly before dinner and still come back to win the consolation and the master points that go with it.

Getting Your Picture In the Paper

In big tournaments, section and overall winners may get their pictures taken for the local or national ACBL Bulletins.

If the master points you win in any event make you a Life Master, that may also be a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity for you.
