Player and Board Movement
Announcing the Round. When the tournament director announces the move for the round, move to the next higher table number if you are East/West; stay where you are if you sit North/South. E/W pairs will go to the next higher table while the boards go to the next lower one. There may be a 'skip round' if the director announces it. In this case, E/W should skip the next higher table -- it has the boards that you made to begin play. Move Carefully. As you are moving, don't look at cards, private scores or anything else which might even remotely be considered advance information about boards you haven't played. Don't talk to anyone about hands played, not even your partner, as someone might overhear. Play Boards in Sequence. At the next table, sit down, write the pair number of your opponents in the right place on your private score and commence to play the next round. Boards will be played consecutively if you are N/S and will skip two boards each round if you are East/West, assuming a two board round, which is typical for a Pairs event. If there is a skip round, a set of boards will be skipped in your sequence. North is the Board Mover. If you're North, move the boards you have just played to the next lower table. If you are too slow, you may be asked to move one board so the next table can begin to play, while you finish up your last board. Don't get behind - - it complicates all the moves and is unfair to other players and to the Directors.New boards will come to your table, if you are sitting N/S, from the next higher table number. Be ready to receive them and place them with the North arrow pointing to North at your table. Play boards in sequence, low to high.
