A Swiss Teams Score Sheet

An Example. Illustrated below is a Swiss Team score sheet. A match is seven boards long, so the board numbers go down the leftmost column. Then comes the contract, the results for or against your team and the IMPs won by you or your opponents.

If your N/S pair made 480 rather than 420 when playing board 8 while your E/W pair only gave up 420, you have played the cards better than your opponents, and you get 2 IMP points for that hand.

Each hand in turn is scored and the total IMPs earned added up, both for your team and your opponents. The team with the greatest number of IMPs is the winner of the match.

Victory Point Scoring

Sometimes an alternate method of scoring called Victory Points is used, wherein the margin of IMP's for the winning team is translated into Victory Points. There are 20 (or sometimes 30) points awarded, but each team gets a proportionate share. If there is a zero IMP margin, each team gets 10 Victory Points. If Team A wins by 5 IMPS, they may get 13 Victory Points and Team B gets 7, for example. This keeps everyone in the contest throughout the day.
