Unusual No Trump
Two Lower Unbid. The unusual Notrump is similar to Michael's, except that it shows five each of the two lower unbid suits. It's always a bid of 2NT where that would be an 'unusual situation'. (Of course, this eliminates the 'natural call' of 2NT but we haven't seen a legitimate 2NT overcall in 25 years, at least).
N E S W 1ª 2NT . . . East has Clubs and Diamonds. 1¨ 2NT . . . East has Clubs and Hearts. 1NT 2NT . . . East has both minors. Between Michaels and the Unusual Notrump, we can easily show almost any combination of 2 five card suits over any opening suit bid.
Strength: 8 to 14 HCP, concentrated in the two suits. It can be bid over Notrump as well as suit bids, which Michael's cannot.
Usage: The Unusual Notrump is very common; in fact, virtually universal. Not alertable.
Responses tend to be similar to Michael's, except that the exact two suits are known immediately - by the opponents as well, of course.
