Michaels Cue Bid

One Heart - Two Hearts! Michaels is used over an opponent's opening suit bid.

To use Michaels, the overcaller makes a direct Cue bid - a bid in the same suit as the right hand opponent -- when RHO opens (but not when RHO overcalls).

Michaels shows two 5 card suits, depending on the opening bid:

  • Michaels over a 1 Club or 1 Diamond opening shows both majors.

  • Michaels over a 1 Heart or 1 Spade opening shows the other major plus a minor.

As you see, any 3 Spades or Hearts in West's hand plus an odd Queen or King or Ace will enable E/W to make a lot of tricks in Hearts or Spades.
